Tributes to 18-year-old girl who died after car crashes into tree

A teenager has died after her car left the road and hit a tree in Aberdeenshire.

The victim, named locally as 18-year-old Zoe Dunn, from Aboyne, died after her Renault Clio crashed on the B9077 South Deeside Road on Thursday.

The one-vehicle accident happened between Bridge of Feugh to Durris, near Banchory, at around 3.30pm.

Paramedics and a doctor battled to save the former Aboyne Academy pupil at the scene but her injuries were fatal.

Depute rector at her former school, Mario Di Maio, said: "Zoe was a very well-liked and extremely well-respected pupil.

"She was a hard-working, committed youngster with a good group of friends and both staff and pupils valued the contribution she made during her time at Aboyne Academy.

"We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news and extend our condolences to Zoe's friends and family."

Friends, family and former teachers also paid tribute to the teenager on social media sites, with more than 400 people joining a memorial page online.

Rebecca Allan said: "I love u so much I actually can’t believe you’re gone. I only spoke to you this morning. Have so many good memories with you just wish I could have more. I’m going 2 miss you so much. Sleep tight Zoe Dunn."

Other friends wrote: "Miss you so much already Zoe RIP" and "RIP Zoe Dunn you will be sadly missed".

Stewart Whyte, history teacher at Aboyne Academy, wrote: "Woke to the terrible news that former pupil Zoe Dunn died on the roads. My heart goes out to her family and friend."

It is understood that she was employed by Aberdeenshire Council at as a domestic assistant at the Allachburn Care Home at Aboyne.

Grampian Police is appealing for anyone who may have seen the car before the accident to contact them.

Roads inspector Ian Kirkwood said: "The collision involved an eastbound blue coloured Renault Clio with a private registration number which left the road and collided with a tree.

"Tragically the sole occupant, a female local to Deeside, was pronounced dead at the scene. Collision Investigators have examined the scene and other officers are speaking to witnesses.

"On the lead up to the collision, we think that the Clio may have travelled eastwards along the A93 through Banchory before turning right onto Dee Street, Banchory then joined the South Deeside road at the Bridge of Feugh and I would ask anyone who may have seen a similar car in that area around the time of the collision to get in touch with us."

The road was closed for five hours to allow investigations to be carried out.
