A 23-year-old man was abducted from a street, assaulted and then dumped in the countryside.
The man was taken from Sunnybank Road in Aberdeen at around 9pm on Tuesday and dumped 45 minutes later in Potterton.
It is understood that the alarm was raised when the man made it to someone's house in the small village.
He suffered facial injuries in the attack and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Police investigating the incident are looking for a dark 4x4 they believe was involved.
They are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious, either in the Sunnyside or Potterton areas, to get in touch.
