Five swimmers had to be rescued by lifeboat crew after getting into trouble during a charity swim.
The rugby players were taking part in a fundraising swim to raise money for a team mate who lost his legs after being hit by a police van.
Starting the swim at Peterhead marina on Sunday afternoon, the group of 20 men aimed to reach the shore at Lido Beach.
The Peterhead RNLI lifeboat went to the aid of five of the men when they got into trouble in the water.
Four were pulled into the lifeboat with help from the Peterhead sea cadets.
Another man was taken to the safety of the marina where he was given aid by two off-duty nurses, who then asked for help from the coastguard to get him to hospital, rather than wait for an ambulance.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We got a call at 3.25pm on Sunday. One man was taken to the local hospital in Peterhead, suffering from exposure to the cold."
The charity event raised more than £23,000 for Daniel Gallagher who was seriously injured after being struck by a police van on the A841 on the Isle of Arran last month.
Mr Gallagher, 22, had been on the island playing a seven-a-side tournament with team mates from Peterhead RFC.
