Van driver killed in crash with Royal Mail lorry named

Police have named a van driver killed in a crash with a Royal Mail lorry in Aberdeenshire.

Robert Reid died when his works van crashed into the postal truck on the A944 road on Monday shortly before 7am.

The 59-year-old, from Peterculter, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, at Mason Lodge near to Westhill.

The busy road was closed for around nine hours while accident investigators examined the scene.

It is thought the two vehicles collided head-on. Mr Reid's Renault Kangoo van flipped onto its side and crashed into a boundary wall following the crash.
