A young boy has died in hospital after collapsing at a community leisure centre.
The five-year-old was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital after the incident at the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill, Aberdeenshire, at around 4pm on Tuesday.
He died a short time after arriving at hospital.
It is thought that the boy, a pupil of Newtonhill Primary School, may have choked on some food, while attending an after-school class.
Grampian Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
A spokesman for the force said a full investigation would be carried out and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
He said: "The child's parents are aware and officers are with them at this difficult time."
Local councillor Ian Mollison said the community has been "devastated" by the boy's death.
He said: "It is such a shocking thing to happen in such a close-knit community.
"It's very hard to take in."
