Scottish entrepreneur Michelle Mone will be the keynote speaker at Aberdeen's International Women's Day festival next month.

Ms Mone, a former model and founder of the Ultimo bra company, will headline a business breakfast meeting on the subject of "Addressing the Boardroom Balance" at the Town and County Hall, during the first of a series of events which will continue throughout the day.

The 41-year-old Glaswegian has helped shatter the glass ceiling in her own field and will be encouraging those in attendance to follow their dreams and not be thwarted by sexism.

Fiona Kennedy, the Scottish singer and actress, who appeared in the cult 1973 film "The Wicker Man" and has subsequently made a wide range of TV and movie appearances, will be the main speaker at the lunchtime function "Celebrating Women's Achievements" on Friday, March 8.

Ms Kennedy, whose daughter, Sophie Kennedy Clark, is an actress and model, will present her talk at a function hosted by the city's Lord Provost, George Adam.

The day features a series of presentations and entertainment by women from Aberdeen's international communities and is intended to send out positive signals.

However, darker themes will be explored in the evening with "Tackling Human Trafficking in the North East", an event jointly hosted by Dame Ann Begg and Aberdeen Cyrenian's "Violence Against Women Project".
