Search for missing woman called off after body found in River Lossie

The body of a woman has been discovered in a Moray river as police searched for a missing person.

Grampian Police was called to the River Lossie in Elgin at around 8am on Monday morning.

STV understands search teams who were hunting for missing 64-year-old Margaret McVey have been stood down since the discovery was made.

Ms McVey, known as Meg, was last seen on Sunday at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “Although investigations into the circumstances are at an early stage, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

“The identity of the deceased will not be released until next of kin are aware.”
