Weather Warning: Snow and Ice remains a major problem for motorists today.Phillip Burgess

Snow and ice will continue to cause problems on Moray's roads today as the current cold snap continued with sub-zero overnight temperatures.

All Moray roads were considered by Grampian Police to be dangerous throughout Tuesday and in particular the area around Lhanbryde with ice making the surface extremely dangerous.

Packed snow and ice around Keith was also causing problems for local motorists as the temperatures dropped again to -3 overnight.

Moray Council said that their gritters were out treating road surfaces around the region at 4.30pm and would be out again at 6am this morning, although all roads remained passable with care barring the A939 Nairn/Tomintoul/Ballater route which was closed from the Lecht to Strathdon.

The Met Office issued an Amber alert on Tuesday, with inland areas in particular effected by a severe frost and snow showers. A spokesman said: "Sleet and snow will continue to spread from the west throughout Thursday with ten to 15cm of snow on higher ground.

"Snow will later turn to rain but despite this any snow on the ground will struggle to melt and that will produce some treacherous road conditions."
