Large-scale search resumes for elderly walker missing for two days

William Robb: The 75-year-old has been missing for two days.

A large-scale search for an elderly walker missing since the weekend has resumed.

William Robb, 75, disappeared while walking with friends on the Speyside Way in the Fochabers area of Moray on Sunday morning.

A major hunt, involving more than 30 people from Grampian Police and mountain rescue teams, started on Monday and resumed on Tuesday morning.

Rescue dogs and an RAF helicopter are also involved in the search.

Grampian Police said they are increasingly concerned about his welfare due to cold weather in the area and the amount of time since he was last seen.

Sergeant David Hoyle, who is coordinating the search efforts, said: "As more time passes, we are naturally becoming very concerned for William.

"Police divers are searching the River Spey and police search teams are continuing to check the land area around the Speyside Way.

"The search teams' efforts are bolstered by a police dog and two search and rescue dogs with their respective handlers.

"The charity Skywatch have offered their assistance in the air searches and will be flying along the route of the Speyside Way and the River Spey in a fixed wing aircraft. Their support in trying to trace William is very much appreciated.

"We'd like to re-iterate our request for householders in the local area to search their gardens and outhouses.

"I'd also like to renew our appeal to the public who use the Speyside Way to keep a look out for William and notify the police immediately with any information they may have."

Mr Robb is described as 5ft 6in, of slim build and has receding grey hair which is long at the back and sides.

He was wearing a blue Gore-Tex jacket and was carrying a green rucksack.

Officers are urging local residents to check their gardens and any sheds or outhouses and appealed for anyone who was on the Speyside Way on Sunday and saw Mr Robb to contact them.
