A yacht was towed back to port after running into trouble off the coast of Aberdeen.

Coastguards confirmed the city’s RNLI lifeboat had been launched at 7.10am on Monday after they received a call.

The Reality, 28ft sailing yacht, suffered engine difficulties around 14 miles east off Aberdeen.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “It was a bit foggy. [The sailor] was tired after his journey and had engine problems and he could not get into the harbour as you cannot come in under sail as it is too dangerous.”

The boat was taken back to Aberdeen Harbour.
