Police fear a third card-skimming device - used to steal bank card details - may have been attached to a cash machine in Stonehaven.

An ATM on Market Square was found to be damaged on Saturday morning. It is the third such incident in the town within a week.

Grampian officers said they believed the device may have been attached some time on Friday and was removed before 9am on Saturday.

A spokesman said: "Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant while using cash machines and to report signs of tampering to the police.

"They should also immediately report any problems with cards being retained by an ATM to the premises where the machine is located and to their own bank."

The force asked for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in Market Square - and particularly in the area of an ATM - to contact them.
