A new system that monitors driver performance has been fitted to all First buses in Aberdeen
The Drive Green technology monitors acceleration and braking patterns and immediately lets the driver know how well they are driving.
The scores are also recorded on a computer allowing drivers to monitor and improve their performance.
It is hoped the equipment will provide a smoother ride for passengers and will help to reduce CO2 emissions.
Bus Driver Eddie Cairns said: “Overall it’s to improve driver comfort. For example if I’m driving in the ‘green zone’ a passenger reading his newspaper wouldn’t even look up from his paper.
“But if I go into the ‘yellow zone’ then they will have noticed the way I’m driving.
Aiden Rowsome of Green Road, the company behind the scheme said: “Because drivers are driving better, they’re burning less fuel and they’re putting less CO2 into the environment.
“Here in Aberdeen they’re saving 500tonnes of CO2 per year from the 180 buses that run in the city.”
