Police have confirmed they have found the bodies of two elderly women who went missing in Moray.

The families of 88-year-old Kathleen Edward and 77-year-old Rosemary Laing were informed after their bodies were discovered.

Both bodies were found in the Bridge of Sourden area on Thursday. Separate searches had been launched for the two women before the discovery.

Ms Edward was reported missing from Broomfield Square in Aberlour around 2.30pm on Tuesday. The coastguard and the police were involved in the search for her.

Ms Laing was reported missing from Rothes on Wednesday but had not been spoken to since Tuesday evening.

Speaking about the searches to trace both ladies, chief inspector Stewart Mackie said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their help and information in relation to the searches for both ladies.

"The support from the public for both of these sad cases has been very much appreciated. I would also like to express our gratitude for the assistance we've received from the coastguard and members of the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team."
