Aberdeen ballet dancer returns for show-stopping performance in home town

An Aberdeen ballet dancer has returned to his home town after nearly ten years to take part in the city’s International Youth Festival celebrations.

Greig Matthews will perform in front of crowds at His Majesty's Theatre as part of the 40th anniversary of the summer event.

The 19-year-old is a professional ballet dancer in Vienna, having trained at The Royal Ballet School in London before being offered a place at the prestigious Vienna State Ballet in Austria.

He said: “I performed Peter Pan at the pantomime at His Majesty’s Theatre when I was six but I haven’t been back there since then so it’s going to bring back a lot of memories. I’m really looking forward to it.

Having started dancing at the age of four, Greig has since graduated from The Royal Ballet School as the director’s “most promising” student.

He will return to Vienna after his much-anticipated performance to rehearse for another big role.

He added: “I will be performing in Vienna's New Year concert this year and then I'm rehearsing a role for the Nutcracker, so I’ve got a lot to do next season and it is going to be very busy.”
