Friends of a young Celtic supporter on life support in an Amsterdam hospital have launched an appeal on his behalf.
Kyle Whyte, 20, became unwell at the Schipol Airport earlier this week as he awaited his return flight home after watching Celtic in a pre-season friendly against Ajax Amsterdam.
Mr Whyte, who lives in Alves, Moray, was born with a rare blood disorder, dyserythropoietic anaemia (CDA), and underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2009.
He was in Amsterdam with friends from the Moray Emerald club. His mother June has flown to Amsterdam to be at his bedside.
When it emerged on Thursday that the cost of running a life support machine in the Netherlands was as high as £3000 a day, one of Mr Whyte’s friends launched an appeal.
Alan Donaldson, who was with Mr Whyte in Amsterdam, told the Press and Journal: “Our club are fundraising to help Kyle’s family cover the medical costs and travel expenses. The costs are huge and we may need to raise about £20,000.”
