Aberdeen's holidaymakers will soon be presented with more opportunities to escape the miserable weather and venture in search of the sun in 2013.

The Thomson and First Choice tour operators have confirmed they will be doubling their capacity from Aberdeen to a range of popular holiday destinations.

The companies, which are owned by Tui Travel, are planning to run up to four flights every week, to hotspots, including Ibiza, and a new, non-stop route to Tenerife. The changes will also include an additional weekly service to Palma in Majorca.

The extra services are in response to increasing demand from customers to Tui's ten travel agent premises throughout the North-east.

"We will now have up to four flights per week out of Aberdeen in the height of summer and we are looking at other destinations as well," said Paul Cooper, the airport negotiations manager for Thomson and First Choice.

"We will see how these services perform next year and, as the market evolves, we will see what other opportunities are available."

Confirmation of the new and expanded routes have been championed by Aberdeen airport managing director, Derek Provan, who said: "We wanted to offer new destinations for tourists from their local airport.

"This is what our customers have been asking for and we are delighted that Thomson are announcing this additional capacity."
