Investigation launched after fire breaks out at Aberdeenshire flats

A joint investigation has been launched after a blaze broke out at a block of flats in Aberdeenshire.

Two people were rescued as more than 20 firefighters tackled the fire at the property in Peterhead at around 10.35am on Friday.

Crews using breathing apparatus were at the scene on Union Street for several hours to bring the blaze under control.

A spokeswoman from Grampian Fire and Rescue Service said that two people had been rescued by ladder but did not suffer any injuries.

Grampian Police and Grampian Fire and Rescue Service are now investigating the fire which is being treated as "unexplained".

Detective Constable Lee Keller said: "The fire is being treated as unexplained currently and a joint investigation between Grampian Police and Grampian Fire and Rescue is underway to establish the cause.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and who saw anything suspicious or who may have any information about this incident."
