Drugs worth more than £500,000 recovered during police operation

Operation Maple: Grampian Police’s crackdown on drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour.

More than 400 people have been arrested and £500,000 of drugs recovered as part of a Grampian Police operation.

Dozens of properties were raided by officers across Aberdeen on Wednesday as part of Operation Maple, the force’s crackdown on drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour.

The latest enforcement comes after the Aberdeen City Alcohol and Drug Partnership awarded Operation Maple almost £100,000 to build on the progress it has made since its inception in October 2010.

Grampian Police’s commander for Aberdeen division, Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson, said: “We are delighted with the success of Operation Maple and the statistics really do speak for themselves.

"So far, we have been able to take almost £500,000 of dangerous drugs off our communities' streets as well removing offenders from our communities where they are causing so much misery.

"Crucially, Operation Maple is not just the largest ever enforcement operation we've undertaken it has also involved a level of cooperation and information sharing between north-east public services that has gained both local and national recognition.

"By sharing information and working together, we've been able to offer not only enforcement, but real support and assistance to people in order to help them break the vicious cycle of crime and drug misuse.”
