Thousands of people have turned out to celebrate the third sector in Aberdeen.
Charities, youth groups, and non-profit organisations joined together for the Celebrate Aberdeen march along the city’s Union Street.
The event, intended to highlight the crucial role played by the voluntary sector in the public, commercial, and cultural life of the city, attracted thousands of marchers to its 11am kick-off on Saturday.
Alison Chandler, spokeswoman for the Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations which organised the event, said: "Without the third sector there would be very little cultural life in the city; there would be a whole range of people who need support and who need help.
“There would be other countries in other parts of the world that wouldn't get the help; there would be a lack of sporting opportunities; and there would be a lack of education opportunities. The population wouldn't be integrated."
The 2011 parade brought together people from 126 organisations and stretched the entire length of Union Street with more than 3,000 participants and 300 street entertainers.
