Jury in Nat Fraser murder trial continues deliberations for second day

The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his estranged wife 14 years ago has retired to consider its verdict for a second day.

Nat Fraser is accused of acting with others to kill his wife Arlene, 33, at her home in Elgin, Moray, or elsewhere in Scotland.

Fruit and vegetable wholesaler Fraser, 53, denies the charge and pleads alibi and incrimination.

Mrs Fraser, a mother-of-two, vanished from her home in Smith Street, New Elgin, Moray, on April 28 1998. Her body has never been found.

Her husband is on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, where the case is now in its 27th day.

The seven men and eight women of the jury began their deliberations after judge Lord Bracadale finished giving them his legal directions yesterday.

He told them they must put a previous trial over Arlene's alleged murder out of their mind. He said they should take as long as they need to return "a true verdict, according to the evidence".

They were sent home for the night at 4.30pm on Tuesday and resumed their deliberations shortly after 10am on Wednesday.
