The closing speeches at the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife are set to begin in Edinburgh.

Nat Fraser, 53, denies attacking Arlene, 33, between April 28 and May 7, 1998 at the home they shared in Smith Street, New Elgin, or elsewhere in Scotland.

The trial has heard that he allegedly strangled her or murdered her "by other means to the prosecutor unknown".

The body of the mother-of-two has never been found.

The charges claim Fraser knew Arlene had seen a solicitor about divorcing him and getting a cash pay-off. He has lodged defences of alibi and incrimination.

He claims that if his wife was murdered, the man responsible could be Hector Dick.

The trial at the High Court in Edinburgh is in its fifth week and the defence case closed on Thursday.

Judge Lord Bracadale told the eight women and seven men of the jury he expected to be asking them to consider their verdict on Tuesday.
