Police were called to a flat in Inverness after a man allegedly threatened to harm himself.
Around ten police vehicles were sent to the scene of the siege at the city's Madras Street along with paramedic teams and fire crews.
A Northern Constabulary spokesman said the incident began at around 4am on Friday.
Trained negotiators were sent to the scene and spent several hours talking to the man.
Officers stormed the ground floor flat at around 9.20am.
A short while later a 25-year-old man was seen being taken away from the property on a stretcher. Police say he was taken to the city's Raigmore Hospital "for a check-up".
It is understood he had threatened to harm himself, but not others.
Up to 20 police officers were involved in the operation.
