A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a van on the A86.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 6.30pm on Tuesday, east of Roybridge.

Daren Lassey, from Yorkshire, was taken to Belford hospital in Fort William, but was understood to be dead on arrival.

The 42-year-old suffered fatal injuries when his black and white BMW motorbike collided with a white Mercedes Sprinter van, around seven miles east of Spean Bridge.

The road was closed for more than 20 hours overnight, while investigations took place.

A diversion route via the A82 to Inverness and the A9 to Aviemore was adding up to 120 miles on to some journeys.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman confirmed that the route reopened at around 2.20pm.

The man's name will not be released until next of kin have been informed.
