A man has appeared in court after an attempted armed robbery at a hotel in Sutherland.

A member of staff was threatened with a knife in the robbery bid at the Mansfield Castle Hotel in Tain on Friday at around 11.20pm.

Nobody was injured in the incident and nothing was stolen.

Greg Meechan appeared from custody at Dingwall Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old, from Tain, was charged with attempted robbery, possession of a knife in public and breaching bail.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody until he returns to court.
