A biker has died after two vehicles collided on a main road in Caithness.
Police said that a van and motorcycle collided about 1 mile south of Thrumster.
The crash happened just before 3pm on Saturday on the A99 Latheron to Wick road.
The 28-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries in the accident, while a woman who was a passenger in the van suffered serious injuries.
She was taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick before being transferred to Raigmore Hospital for specialist treatment on pelvic and back injuries.
The road was closed for six hours, with local diversions, while enquiries were carried out at the scene by officers of Northern Constabulary road policing unit.
The deceased biker was later named as offshore oil worker Brent Larnach, from Mid Clyth, Lybster. Police said he died at the scene of the crash.
