£600,000 storm damage cost for Dounreay

Dounreay: Storm damage to cost hundreds of thousands.

Damage to the former nuclear plant at Dounreay caused by recent storms will cost nearly £600,000 to repair.

Severe weather in late November and early December caused extensive damage to parts of the Caithness site currently being decommissioned under a £2bn scheme.

A waste plant and felt roofs at a new building going up beside the Dounreay test reactor bore the brunt of the damage.

Temporary repairs have been carried out, with both roofs due to be replaced by the end of the month.

Sections of the new perimeter security fence going up around the site also had to be replaced.

A Dounreay spokesman said the storms had not compromised radiological safety.
