Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on A9

A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a car in the Highlands.

The man, in his 50s, was struck by a car on the A9 road at Alness on Tuesday night.

Police said the road was closed for several hours after the accident at around 7.10pm.

The front bumper of the red Mazda car was damaged in the accident.

Sergeant Norman MacLeod said: "A one vehicle crash has occurred involving a pedestrian as well.

"Unfortunately a 52-year-old male suffered fatal injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Inquiries are ongoing and are at a very early stage."

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
