A teenager has appeared in court in connection with a car crash which left a 15-year-old girl seriously injured.
The girl was a passenger in the car which crashed near Barvas Free Church in Barvas, on the Isle of Lewis, on Saturday at around 10.45pm.
She was taken to Western Isles Hospital for treatment along with another passenger in the car, a 16-year-old boy, who suffered minor injuries.
The boy has been released from hospital but the girl is still being treated and is believed to be in a stable condition.
John Macleod, 17, appeared from custody at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Monday charged with careless driving.
He is accused of using a vehicle in a dangerous condition, by having too many passengers or transporting them in a dangerous way.
The teenager has also been charged with failing to provide a breath specimen to police and using threatening or abusive behaviour.
MacLeod, of Brue, Barvas, made no plea during the court appearance and was released on bail. He will return to court on Friday.
A police spokesman appealed for witnesses to the one-vehicle accident, which happened on the A858 road, to come forward.
Two fire engines also attended the accident. Fire crew helped paramedics free one of the casualties from the car.
