A buzzard found dead in Grantown on Spey had been "poisoned by banned pesticides".
The bird was discovered at Bridge of Brown and after being examined at SASA laboratories, it was found to have been poisoned by Carbofuran and Aldicarb.
Hillwalkers are being urged to be careful along with any pets or children as the pesticides could cause death if ingested.
Northern Constabulary are warning the public to be particularly wary of any animal baits with dead insects on them.
They should not touch any suspect items, but should immediately contact the local police.
A spokesman for the force said: "Anyone with any information on this or similar incidents should contact Northern Constabulary on 01463 715555."
