A climber who died after falling on Ben Nevis has been named by police.

Ben St Joseph, 22, sustained fatal injuries after falling on the mountain's Tower Ridge.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue team and a helicopter from Prestwick were scrambled to the scene on Britain's highest mountain after reports of the fall came in around 11am on Saturday.

Northern Constabulary said that Mr St Joseph, from Essex, was rescued from Tower Gully but had sustained fatal injuries in the fall.

The force said he is believed to have fallen around 100 metres. A report is being submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Tower Ridge is one of several ridges protruding north-west from the summit plateau of Ben Nevis, which stands at 1344 metres (4409 ft).
