A fast-track Olympic-style lane could be set up for buses and HGVs to help traffic management when the Kessock Bridge undergoes major works next year.
The £18m Scotland Transerv project will involve lane closures while the 30-year-old bridge, which is part of the A9 Inverness-Thurso road, is resurfaced.
During the Olympics competitors and officials were able to get to events quickly through the use of special bus lanes.
It is hoped such a scheme would encourage commuters to leave their cars at home.
The organisation says it hopes motorists will be encouraged to use public transport to help tackle congestion during the works.
Scotland Transerv has warned motorists could face delays of up to an hour as the works take place.
