A tanker filled with liquid nitrogen has caught fire on the A9, blocking the Highland road.

One of the tanker's wheels burst into flames at around 1.55pm on Friday at Crubenmore.

It is unclear what caused the fire, but police said there was no risk to the public as liquid nitrogen is not flammable.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A wheel on a tanker was on fire but there was no threat.

"It was extinguished by the fire service - the driver tried to put the fire out by himself but couldn't manage.

"Police officers were directing traffic around it."
