A pet dog has been killed in a hit and run incident in a Highland town.
The Jack Russell was struck by a 4x4 vehicle on Wednesday at a pedestrian crossing on Thurso Road, Wick.
At the time the dog was with its owner but was not on a lead.
Northern Constabulary said the vehicle involved was described as being dark in colour and did not stopped following the incident.
