14-year-old girl sexually assaulted as she walked near beach with friend

Appeal: Police are asking witnesses to come forward.

A 14-year-old girl suffered a serious sexually assault as she walked with a friend and two men on the foreshore in Dunoon last week.

The girl, and her 14-year-old friend, were walking on Alexandra Parade at around 11pm on Thursday June 28 when they met two older men.

A member of the public, who later saw the girls at a nearby bus stop and was concerned by their behaviour, called the police a short time later.

Detective Inspector Douglas Wilson of Dunoon CID said: "This inquiry is at a very early stage and we have still to clarify exactly what happened, however, one of the girls has told police that she was seriously sexually assaulted by one of the men.

"The suspect is described as of Asian appearance, between 19 and 40 years of age, 5ft 5in height, average build, short dark hair, dark eyes and was wearing a long-sleeved purple top.

"He was with a second man, also believed to be of Asian appearance, around 5ft 3in height, of a heavier build, between 19 and 40 years of age, dark hair and eyes and was wearing a yellow long-sleeved top.

"Officers have been checking CCTV, speaking to people and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area in an effort to trace the men involved.

"Alexandra Parade is normally quite busy with pedestrians and passing traffic and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 2230 and 2300 hours on Thursday night to come forward.

"On checking CCTV, we saw at least three dog walkers and two young men in the area at that time. I am in no way connecting them to the incident other than that they might have seen or heard something that will help us with our enquiries."
