Councillors in the Western Isles to use iPads to save on paper costs

New devices: Councillors will use iPads to help cut costsfranckreporter

Councillors in the Western Isles are to help their local authority cut costs by using iPads for Committee agendas rather than paper print outs.

Senior officials at the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will also use the devices to access the electronic agendas.

The cost of paying for the iPads will be recouped by the money saved on printing and postage.

Training for using the touch screen technology has already begun and the electronic documentation will be available for them to download from June 1.

The move comes after both Edinburgh and Stirling City Councils confirmed that they would also provide iPads for their officials.

There will be a few paper copies of agendas for the public attending meetings.
