Rod Stewart’s Christmas television special will delight Scottish audiences – a day before the rest of the UK.

STV has successfully secured the rights to the worldwide premiere of the rocker’s festive show on Saturday (December 8) and will be able to see the star celebrate Christmas with a host of other famous names at Stirling Castle.

The Grammy-Award winner will sing festive favourites alongside Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue, as well as smooth swing singer Michael Bublé. Scotland’s very own violin prodigy Nicola Benedetti will also perform.

It is sure to lead to a few households in Glasgow and Edinburgh changing their plans this weekend.

Hundreds of devoted Rod fans queued to get the chance to see the superstar when he held a book signing at the St Enoch Centre on November 24.

Some had queued overnight in subzero temperatures, including Gerry Bryson, a super fan from Giffnock on the southside of Glasgow, who has been attending Rod Stewart and Faces concerts for nearly 50 years.

He said: "He's a top man, isn't he? He's the greatest rocker in the world and I want his signature."

Rod also announced at the signing that he would play a show at the Hydro arena in Glasgow when it opens in 2013.

For those who can't wait that long, tune into STV on Saturday night at 10pm.
