Princess Anne meets soldiers and families at 1 Scots base in capital

The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, has visited members of the Royal Scots Borderers at their base in Edinburgh.

Her Royal Highness, who is Royal Colonel in Chief of 1 Scots, met the Rear Operations Group which provides support for their colleagues who are currently serving in Afghanistan.

The Princess Royal met soldiers’ families and members of the surrounding community at Dreghorn Barracks on Saturday morning.

Most members of 1 Scots are on operations in Helmand in Afghanistan as part of Operation Herrick 17.

However, around 150 members of the Rear Operations Group are responsible for maintaining a presence at Dreghorn, providing support to the personnel and families who remain in Edinburgh.

Her Royal Highness has long enjoyed strong ties to Scotland. She is Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh and resides at Holyrood Palace every summer. The princess is an enthusiast of lighthouses and travels Scotland visiting each of its 215 lighthouses.
