A four-vehicle smash on the M8 caused severe delays for motorists during morning rush hour.

The collision occurred on the Edinburgh to Glasgow motorway at around 7.20am on Thursday.

Lothian and Borders Police said four vehicles were involved in the crash near to the exit for junction 3a at Bathgate, West Lothian.

As a result of the pile-up, one lane of the M8 eastbound was shut. This has caused long queues as far back as Harthill.

A police spokesman said that no injuries had been reported in the collision as they dealt with the incident.

Traffic Scotland warned drivers to expect delays during the morning rush hour. The vehicles involved were moved onto the hard shoulder at around 8.20am, although Traffic Scotland said disruption eastbound could still be experienced.

In a separate incident, which also caused traffic disruption on Thursday, a multi-vehicle collision on the A8 at junction 6 Euro Central resulted in one lane westbound being shut.
