A man who was injured during a night-time dog walk was rescued after his loyal pet raised the alarm.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team were asked to assist police in a search for a missing dog walker on the outskirts of Dalkeith in Midlothian.

His family contacted emergency services when the dog returned home without him at around 9pm on Wednesday.

Dave Wright, deputy team leader of Tweed Valley team, said: "The missing person was located by Police Scotland officers in woodland at around 10.30pm having taken a fall and becoming unable to move.

"Team members assisted with the casualty's evacuation from the woodland and provided initial first aid."

The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
