A man suffered head injuries after a late-night attack in Princes Street, Edinburgh.

The 26-year-old was walking past the New Look shop at around 3.15am on Sunday when he was approached by two men and punched in the face, the force of which caused him to fall back on to the road and hit his head.

The two suspects then ran off along Castle Street and the victim, who cannot remember the ordeal, was assisted by a group of people who had left a nearby club.

Both suspects were described as being olive-skinned and were wearing black leather jackets and jeans.

The first man is believed to be around 20 to 25, between 6ft and 6ft 2in with an average build and dark stubble. The second suspect is 30 to 35 with a slim build.

Constable Lauren Mitchell said: "The victim was taken to hospital where he received treatment for a head injury and has no recollection of being attacked.

"We have spoken to the people who called police and assisted the man after he was injured but are keen to trace anyone else who was on Princes Street at around 3.15am on Sunday and remembers seeing anything suspicious.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects and believes they can help us identify them should also contact police immediately."

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
