LONDON (Reuters) - Oil services firm Lamprell
The news of the contracts, worth $320.4 million (204 million pounds), sent shares in UAE-based Lamprell soaring over 20 percent to 224.6 pence and their highest level in almost three months.
"We believe that the offshore wind sector provides Lamprell with a unique opportunity to utilise its high-level engineering skills in a new and fast-growing sector, where there is currently a lack of installation vessel capacity," CEO Nigel McCue said in a statement on Wednesday. The vessels are set to be delivered to Fred Olsen Windcarrier in the second and third quarters of 2012, Lamprell said. Windcarrier also has options for two further vessels.
Evolution analyst Keith Morris said the award would help underpin forecasts and it was positive that they had won an order in the wind sector, which the firm has indicated could be a significant market for its services.
"Nothing much has happened for a long time in the drilling rig business, so when you get a significant contract like this it's a boost to confidence," he said.
