LONDON (Reuters) - John Lewis
The employee-owned firm said on Tuesday the second store, focussed exclusively on home furnishings and electricals, will be a third of the size of a typical John Lewis department store at 52,000 square feet and involve an investment of 7.5 million pounds, creating 220 new jobs.
John Lewis' first "at home" store opened in October in Poole and has traded above expectations.
The new format was a response to a slowing in the firm's pipeline of new full-line department stores.
A new department store at the Olympic site in Stratford, east London is on track to open in September 2011. However, eight other projects, including one in Croydon, have been delayed by developers.
"We've identified 30-50 locations which would be suitable for the John Lewis at home format and a decision on this roll out will be taken in March," said Managing Director Andy Street.
